Book
Buying
& Trading Policies
Books should be clean
and sound.
Please do not bring in books that are falling apart, mildewed, water damaged,
missing pages, badly marked up or otherwise not in good condition. Most
books with missing or badly damaged dust jackets will be refused especially
if they are contemporary editions (i.e. published after 1920). |
|
|
|
The better the condition, the better the price we will pay.
A book's condition directly
affects its value.Other factors include edition and collectibility. In
most instances, we pay 20% of the current going price depending on the
book's condition. Our maximum payoff is 5% higher than the standard.
The original cover price of the book cannot be used to
determine current value.
Due to inflation, condition and collectibility, |
WE
DO BUY
quality used books, rare and special editions, "first editions"
and "antique" books. We'll base our offer on the considerations
mentioned above, as well as our own sense of the book's worth, how long
it will take to find a buyer, and how much money and time we wish to invest.
We reserve the right not to purchase every book you bring in.
We pick and choose to insure the best quality of stock for our
customers.
Please make an appointment to sell us your books. |
| |
cover prices bear no relation
to a book's actual worth.
We offer trade credit slips valued at a rate of 50% of the current going
rate. These can be used at any time on any merchandise for sale in the
store.
WE DO NOT BUY
Magazines, textbooks, encyclopedia sets, self-published books,
book club editions, annual publications greater than one year old or romance
novels.
Most of these are produced on low quality paper and there is no market
demand for them.
|
Our buyers are not always present or available. Please telephone in advance
to make an appointment. People with appointments will be seen first.
We do make home visits.
If you are selling a large amount of quality books, please make
an appointment for a home visit. For your sake and ours, do not bring
in hundreds of books.
We reserve the right not to buy any books for a time period determined
by us.
There are many people willing to sell books
and our stores could easily get flooded. To run a quality bookshop welcoming
to both customer and staff, we need to control the amount of stock. |
